C.S.IThere is a section in our local paper called the ‘Police Blotter‘ in which the local police departments publish a selection of incidents from their ‘crime files’ for the week. Well it appears that it was a busy week for the South Lake Minnetonka P.D… This is the actual entry for this week:

JUNE 1

Suspicious activity. Residents reported finding what they said appeared to be a human skull in their front yard. Upon further inspection by an officer, it was determined the object was a large mushroom.

JUNE 2

Animal complaint. Police received a report of an injured horse. The horse was checked by officers and it appeared the horse was just trying to scratch an itch.

JUNE 8

Animal assist. Police helped a duck and her ducklings cross the highway.

Wow, I want to work for that police department

Well folks. I promised that I was going to try to write in this thing on a more regular basis than I did in the previous one, so I figured I should write something even if nothing of note has really happened… Maybe I’ll tell you about my weekend:

We actually had quite a pleasant weekend, the weather was pleasant to hot and we decided to go to Como Zoo to visit my wife’s friend who is working there, and also to visit thier new butterfly house, that was very nice even if it was absolutely crowded. Following this, we had a nice fish supper at the Sea Salt Eatery in Minnehaha Park (which I can heartily recommend to anyone who likes seafood). Finished off the day by drinking beer in front of the telly.

On Sunday we went to see the Star Wars:Where Science meets Imagination exhibit at the Science Museum, this was very interesting, and included many original models and costumes used in the making of the films; we followed this by going to watch a baseball game at the Saint Paul Saints, this was the only time it rained this weekend (sod’s law) and we lost, but we still had a good time.

Well, that was our weekend, maybe I’ll go into more detail another time (when I’m not running late for work) nothing much else to report, bye for now.

Our Garden June 8, 2008

Not our Garden

Today we dug a vegetable patch in our back yard. We have planted three different kinds of Tomatoes, Peppers, Aubergine (Or ‘eggplant’ for my American Friends), Cucumbers and some different types of herbs (Curiously pronounced ‘erbs over here!). We have no experience with growing vegetables so we kind of made it up as we went along, it should be interesting to see what the results are.

I have fashioned a makeshift chicken wire fence in an attempt to keep the rabbits out, and hope this method works. If any of my readers has any ideas on keeping rabbits away, I’d be glad of the feedback

P.S. The picture is not our garden

Summer has arrived (finally) June 2, 2008

Yes, it’s that time of year again where I can finally announce that summer has finally arrived in Minneapolis after a very very long winter. We have actually been able to grill outside a couple of times, although there was a brief blip last night when we had tornado warnings and massive thunderstorms with hail stones the size of marbles. Other than that, it’s great to see the summer finally here.

I hope you like the new look blog with the old name. I promise to write more this time. I’d love to hear from my readers, old and new… please post in the comments section.

I’ve splashed a bit of paint around and put up some new curtains, so come on in and make yourself at home. I’ve just put the kettle on.

Hi folks,

During my recent visit to England I found out that one or two people actually read my blog. Therefore I think I should start writing in it again. Watch this space for details on my New and Improved Blog; also a return to the old name ‘Ben Kent’s House of Cheese’…

BBC NEWS | Business | Egg acts over ‘risky’ customers

This is quite indicative of the way banks are riding roughshod over consumers these days. British bank Egg (Which incidentally has just been bought up by American giant Citigroup) has been sending letters to customers saying they were too much of a credit risk and then cancelling their credit cards. However it seems that the people receiving the threatening letters were the ones who pay off their balance in full each month and have an excellent record. Obviously these people were not making the Fat Cats at Citigroup enough money in inflated interest payments.
